Brawl at Central State University (Historically Black College & University – HBCU)

Newslink: www.daytondailynews.com ***Disclaimer – I DO NOT own the video posted above or the article posted below*** DAYTON, OHIO — A brawl broke out at a fraternity party that police said specifically featured Wilberforce University and Central State University students early Saturday morning. The incident — which police said drew between 100 and 200 people to the IUE-CWA Hall, 313 S. Jefferson St. — resulted in one arrest and was only quieted after officers received assistance from other law enforcement agencies. Attendees at the scene said numerous representatives from fraternities in Ohio were also at the yearly party, including those from Wright State University, the University of Dayton, Xavier University and the University of Cincinnati. According to a police report, “There were several officers trying to de-escalate the situation. Officers were being pushed up against the wall. There were tables and chairs being thrown in the air.” Fran Robinson, a spokeswoman for Central State, said Saturday she had no knowledge of the incident and could not comment directly. Attempts to reach a spokesperson from Wilberforce were unsuccessful. As of Saturday night, one person had been arrested in connection with the brawl. Darryl Wayne Williams, 22, was arrested on suspicion of a felony-level assault offense, as well as misdemeanor-level offenses for failure to disperse and disorderly conduct. A series of US college and university representatives talk about myths/stories that prospective international students have told them about how they thought life would be like in the US Some myths they help dispel: 1. Big cities aren’t safe, 2. Life in the US is like Hollywood or Disneyworld, 3. Private schools are always better than public schools, 4. Weather is too extreme in certain parts of US, 5. US higher education is too expensive, 6. US admissions people don’t know my education system, 7. Conditional admissions isn’t possible, and 8. Best schools are only on the east & west coasts.
